2023 Ram 1500 TRX - Safety & Reliability | CarBuzz (2024)

2023 1500 TRX Safety

Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS provides model-specific information for the TRX, but there are safety ratings for the standard 2023 1500 Crew Cab.

The IIHS gave the 2022 Ram Crew Cab a Top Safety Pick award, but only with the LED headlights, which the TRX has, and the optional front crash prevention, which it doesn't. The NHTSA gave it the full five-star rating overall, even though it scored four out of five stars in the front impact and rollover tests. The rollover results won't apply to the TRX, which has unique running gear and a different center of gravity.

2023 1500 TRX Key Safety Features

As mentioned earlier, Ram is a bit stingy regarding standard features, and its specs aren't that great. As far as safety goes, it has six airbags, a rearview camera, tire-pressure monitoring, stability and traction control, and powerful disc brakes with ABS. Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, hill-start assist, trailer-sway damping, and cruise control.

To unlock more driver-assistance features, you'll need to fork over an additional $995 for the Advanced Safety Group. It adds adaptive cruise control with stop & go, lane-keep assist, pedestrian emergency braking, and a tailgate-ajar warning light. Front/rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, a surround-view camera system, and a head-up display are also available.

2023 1500 TRX Reliability

There are no 2023 ratings yet, but JD Power rated the 2022 Ram 1500 range 81 out of a possible 100 points overall, and a decent 80 for Quality & Reliability. Other trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado scored a higher 85 and 87, respectively. There aren't TRX-specific ratings, but we're hoping this model will closely approximate the rest of the 1500 lineup's results.

In its first (2021) model year, the TRX was subject to a worrying ten recalls. The 2022 model was recalled eight times, for missing airbag sensors, a tailgate that may open while driving, a front seatbelt pretensioner that might fail, an inoperable defogging system that may affect visibility, and two recalls for both fuel-pump failure and a backup-camera image that may not display. The last two of these have so far carried over to the 2023 model as well.

At the time of writing, the 2022 TRX had only been recalled once for an inoperable defrosting/defogging system.
