Johnny Bohmer pushes this GT to well over 300 mph.
Ford GT built between 2005 and 2006 was one of the coolest American supercars to ever play the game but was largely forgotten by most of the American public up until very recently. This is likely due to the fact that tuners and custom shops are starting to realize that you can do some pretty intense stuff with these American racing legends. For instance, Gas Monkey Garage built a car that they said could probably go 300 miles an hour but their team only had the courage to hit around 292 mph. Well, that was until Johnny Bohmer got behind the wheel and pushed it just a little bit further.
Across the entire body of the vehicle, you can see all of the detail that went into making the car as visually striking as it is. Everything from the exterior design to the interior is made for speed and driver comfort at high acceleration. All these things make it a great race car but an interesting feature is the fact that it’s 100% street legal and the driver even regularly picks his kids up from school. So it’s cool to see a car that can do 300 miles an hour and still drive around on the road just like all of us normal sports car drivers.
Speaking of that three digit speed goal, you’re probably pretty anxious by now to know just how fast Johnny Bohmer got his car to go. In total, a speed of 310 miles an hour was achieved behind the wheel of this incredible Ford GT. If there was any question that this car was a super car then it should now be pretty much clear considering it’s faster than pretty much any Bugatti you’ll find on the road. All of these things make it an incredible piece of automotive engineering art and technology that is simply unbeatable by pretty much any modern performance car standards. On top of that, it drives on the road regularly meaning it is a bit of a local legend around the area. Who knows, you might even see this 300 mile an hour beast driving around on the road near you.
9, 2022, the Gas Monkey Garage-sponsored 2006 Ford GT known as the “BADD GT,” achieved a top speed of 310.8 mph (500.1 km/h) at Space Florida's Launch and Landing Facility, located in Kennedy Space Center, Florida, making this car the fastest street legal car in the world.
The GT Mk II uses smaller 19-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport GT slick racing tires, although it shares the GT's carbon ceramic brakes. As a result of these changes, the GT Mk II is not street legal. Only 45 will be built, and at a unit price of US$1.2 million it is the most expensive new Ford ever sold.
By few we mean pretty much all of them, because this first-gen Ford supercar has a top speed well beyond its original 200-mph limit. It's actually owned by Johnny Bohmer himself, purchased new in 2006 and tweaked through the years to be gratuitously fast while still being legal for road use.
Powering this beast is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, unleashing a staggering 650 horsepower. Unlike its manual predecessors, the latest GT comes equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, delivering lightning-fast shifts.
1. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut—330 mph (Claimed) The Swedish manufacturer's 5.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine is mated to a novel Light Speed gearbox that can handle its prodigious output, which can reach 1,600 hp when running on E85 biofuel.
Can any car go 300 mph? No, not just any car could go 300 MPH. A specially prepared Porsche 911 turbo went 332 MPH on sand in Wales for a new record. They have to be specially built to move across the ground at that speed and still be controllable.
Absolute World Records are for a given distance or elapsed time, independent of Category, Group, or Class. The current holder of the Outright World Land Speed Record is ThrustSSC driven by Andy Green, a twin turbofan jet-powered car which achieved 763.035 mph - 1227.985 km/h - over one mile in October 1997.
Ford GT. Johnny Bohmer is the owner of the car pictured, nicknamed Badd GT. The car is based on a second-gen Ford GT. In standard guise it has a 5,4-litre supercharged V8 that produces 410 kW.
Ford has also made it explicitly clear that the two-year sale restriction still stands and GT owners shouldn't breach it, or else: "Ford and Mecum jointly urge that all original purchasers of Ford GTs abide by the terms of their agreements in order to avoid controversy," Ford said.
The price of the 2022 Ford GT starts at $500,000. Ford hasn't released official pricing for the 2022 GT, but we expect the supercar to continue to start at $500,000. Although that means most of us could never afford to own this exotic Ford, it's still fun to dream and fiddle with the configurator on the consumer site.
That's old-school thinking. The V6 destined to power the new Ford GT displaces only 3.5 litres. About the decision to develop a 3.5-litre V6 instead of a V8, Ford says that more is less. Meaning, with less weight, the new GT doesn't need more cubic capacity.
Like any performance car, it'll turn you into a jerk if you let it. So really, daily driving the Ford GT seems quite reasonable apart from one thing: the noise.
Rocketing the GT to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and to 150 in 16.9 (that's an incredible seven seconds quicker than the Porsche and the Ferrari) was a cinch. Unlike some other supercars that have hair-trigger clutches with monstrously heavy pedal efforts, the GT's clutch was as easy to operate as a Honda Accord's.
Production of the GT stopped at the end of 2022, and many wondered why Ford had chosen to end the run of its supercar. The answers are pretty straightforward. For starters, the model had got to the end of its production run one way or another. The GT is also a low-volume, high-cost production car.
On February 14, 2014, the Hennessey Venom GT set a new world speed record for 2-seat sports cars by reaching a top speed of 270.49 mph (435.31 km/h). The test was performed at the John F. Kennedy Space Center on the 3.2-mile Space Shuttle landing runway.
In 1966, Ford with the GT40 Mk II car broke Ferrari's winning streak at Le Mans, thus becoming the first American manufacturer to have won a major European race since Jimmy Murphy's triumph with Duesenberg at the 1921 French Grand Prix.
M2K Motorsports made history when their Ford GT made a 300mph standing-mile pass. We go under the hood of this amazing machine and talk power with the team behind the record.
