Most, probably, you know the star fruit as a co*cktail decorator. It's a beautiful fruit, but the tropical exotic fruit can do more than just food deco.
I have a thing for tropical fruits. If you feel the same way, or you are curious, then check out my list of tropical fruits.
The list has been compiled with my traveling blogger friends and new discoveries are always added.
⭐️ Ingredients
You will need fresh Star fruits to make this juice. Different types of varieties exist of this fruit, but they are hardly ever mentioned on labels and in grocery stores.
Most commercially available carambola fruits are most certainly sweet or neutral in taste.
Fruits found in tropical regions can be sour too, and you will come across green and yellow varieties.
Additional optional ingredients:
- water — required if you are using a blender and if you want to thin down your juice. You can skip adding water if you are using a juicer and if you want an intense fruity juice.
- ice cubes or crushed ice — if you want a cool juice
- sugar — if you feel the need to sweeten your juice,
You can prepare a juice of a raw star fruit by using either a blender or a juicer.
Blender — You will need to strain the juice before serving. The blender blends it but rough pieces and fruit foam need to be strained.
Juicer — The pure juice that comes out of the juicer can be enjoyed directly and doesn't need to filtered or processed further.
🔪 How to make the Juice?
Here is an overview on how to make this juice from scratch with fresh fruits. See in the recipe card below for detailed instructions.
In summary, you can prepare this juice either in a blender or in a juicer.
Cut the Fruit
The star fruit can be processed as is. You just have to rinse the skin well and cut off the ends.
Cut the fruit into manageable chunks.
Star Fruit Juice with a Blender
Place the fruit chunks with water in a blender jar. You can also add sugar and/or ice cubes/crushed ice.
Blend to a smooth mix. Place a fine strainer over a bowl and filter your juice.
The result should be a residue-free filtered starfruit juice.
Star Fruit Juice with a Juicer
Press the fruit chunks through a juicer and collect the juice on the other side.

Instructions
Wash your star fruits to get rid of impurities on the skin and cut the fruit into chunks.
If you use a blender, place the fruit chunks with the water and sugar into the blender jar and blend smooth.
Strain through a fine sieve before pouring into glasses with ice cubes.
If you use a juicer, simply press the fruit chunks through the juicer and collect the juice on the other side. Mix with sugar (powdered sugar will work better), water and ice cubes in a glass.
Serve cold

💡 Flavor Variation Ideas
I prefer my starfruit juice plain in its most natural form, but you are free to add more flavors to your juice.
Add any of the following:
- ½ inch fresh Ginger
- ½ squeezed Lemon or Lime Juice
- 1 or 2 Apples
- Handful of Grapes
- 1 to 2 Pears
- 1 small Papaya fruit
- An alternative sweetener instead of sugar such as stevia, honey, monk fruit.
🍱 Storing & Leftovers
You can store this juice or leftovers in an airtight container or bottle in your fridge for up to 2–3 days.
Stir or shake it well before serving.
