I am inspired by the many women on my feed sharing their 2021 Hair in review based on the post by Yelitsa Jean-Charles. For Black women, hair is a source of pride and joy and a source of pain and shame. I've always been one to be anti conformity and one way to express that is through hair. This year, a few Black women at my job and I got together to challenge the way our company, T-Mobile, describes professional hair. As many of us would have to be back in the office, we did not want to have to give up our braids and locs and fros and twists in favor of straight hair. That sparked a change when Peta Carcone, MBA, ITIL, CSPO, CSM, POPM (she/her) took that conversation to HR and her management in her channel, and successfully updated our policy to include specific language for natural and protective hairstyles consistent with the wearer's culture and religion. I'm so grateful for her engaging in that dialogue and for T-Mobile leadership listening and responding swiftly.I am so excited about this change and that women wearing their hair in its natural form or in protective hairstyles is becoming the norm. Here is to continued growth and dynamic progress in 2022! #CrownAct #BlackHair [alt text: Jasmine wearing different hairstyles including locs, twists, twist outs, frohawk, afro, and straight hair. photos are arranged in monthly increments with a different hairstyle for each month.]

Are your health records for sale on the dark web?I read a CNBC article today that blew my mind. Cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler said on the dark web, medical records sell for $60 compared to $15 for a Social Security number and $3 for a credit card. Compounding that is the fact that there’s a chronic shortage of staffing, and as the Change Healthcare uproar has shown, there’s tremendous pressure to restore access quickly.“Health-care data being exposed is a lot worse than most other data and the bad guys know this,” [Sumedh] Thakar, [CEO of cybersecurity company Qualys] said.Link to the full article in the comments

My vote for work from home #938364 - my (2nd) home office sits next to a window on the second floor. Today the birds were enjoying the snow and I grabbed my long lens, opened my window, and snapped a photo. Though the keurig at the office is really nice too 🥹

Anyone else ride home on the MBTA commuter rail with a big yellow yoga ball from #CoreSummit23? Just me? My kids are always so excited about the swag that comes home from conferences, so I loved the "About to bounce? Take a ball on your way out"

Had the opportunity to meet up with Alexander Cadet at #inbound2023 yesterday. Talking career aspirations and goals. His weekend project is simply amazing. He and a group of friends launched a clothing line called Original Ugly. I love everything about the line! Check them out on instagram @originalugly or on their website originalugly.com

This data? Unsurprising.I would be curious the type of startups Women and POC are founding and the diversity in those types of startups. It makes me wonder if VCs are investing in so many similar businesses that are being launched during booms, rather than investing in diverse in thought or diverse in need startups. We are seeing another boom right now (AI/Machine Learning) and I am sure many of these aren't diverse in thought or unique ideas being launched. I'd be willing to bet that the startups founded by WOC, POC, and women in general are hitting needs that people in power aren't ready to take "risks" on. But sure, let's invest in a AI driven CRM. We need that.

Mariana is amazing friend of mine who has watched, supported, and challenged my growth over the last 15 years! I've also had the pleasure to work with her on many projects both as a colleague and as a leader and she is a wonderful person to work with. For my Boston connections, and those who have remote work opportunities, check her out!
