GW2. A complete guide on how to unlock the Skyscale Mount. Be aware, this guide is massive.

NOTE: This long guide is still relevant to earn extra masteries for your Skyscale and necessary for the Legendary Accessory Vision.

First, to be able to unlock this mount, you need to get access to all six Living World Season 4 maps, and at least complete two specific chapters:

• Legacy (the third chapter of the fourth episode A Star to Guide Us, to get access to Sun’s Refugee)
• Descent (the last chapter of the last episode War Eternal, this unlocks the first collection Newborn Skyscales)

These collections are time gated. Some steps requires 2 hours waiting and the total minimum time needed to fully unlock the mount is 3 days plus 8 hours. But if you decide to craft by yourself each Charged Quartz Crystal needed for some collections, you will need several more days.

After you complete Descent, the final story step of the War Eternal episode, go to Lion’s Arch and you will receive a mail from Gorrik, inviting you back to Dragonfall. Once there, you can find him next to Skyscale Eyrie – [&BM8LAAA=] . Talk to him to begin the collection achievements.

This is the first main collection, but actually it have four sub collections inside.

You will get the first item to get, “A Dire Issue”, as soon you talk the first time with Gorrik at Skyscale Eyrie – [&BM8LAAA=] on Dragonfall.

Skyscale Scales

This collection requires you to find 21 Skyscale Scales throughoutDragonfall, here you can see the map with their locations:

Skyscale Medicine

This collection requires you to buy 5 ingredients so Gorrik can create the medicine that you will need for Sick Skycales.

Activated-Charcoal Paste

You can buy this item from Crystal Bloom Quartermaster, you can easily find the NPC around the Pact Command Waypoint – [&BN4LAAA=] and quickly find the location by the Volatile icon on the map.

This item will cost only 4,900 Karma but it requires you to complete first the achievement Putting Out Fires. This achievement needs you to complete 10 events for the Order of the Crystal Bloom in the Burning Forest area of Dragonfall.

Gravewort Paste

You can buy this item from Olmakhan Quartermaster, you can easily find the NPC around the Pact Command Waypoint – [&BN4LAAA=] and quickly find the location by the Volatile icon on the map.

This item will cost 100 Volatile Magic and 5 Mistborn Motes, but it requires you to complete first the achievement Life in the Underworld. This achievement needs you to complete 10 events for the Olmakhan in the Underworld area of Dragonfall.

Mashed Echinacea

You can buy this item from Mist Warden Quartermaster, you can easily find the NPC around the Pact Command Waypoint – [&BN4LAAA=] and quickly find the location by the Volatile icon on the map.

This item will cost 100 Volatile Magic and 5 Mistborn Motes, but it requires you to complete first the achievement Cutting Weeds. This achievement needs you to complete 10 events for the Mist Wardens in Melandru’s Lost Domain area of Dragonfall.

Stabilized Brandstorm Flux

You can buy this item from Traveling Elonian Trader, you can easily find the NPC around the Pact Command Waypoint – [&BN4LAAA=] and quickly find the location by the Volatile icon on the map.

This item will cost only 245 Karma and 10 Trade Contracts.

Tincture of Volative Magic

You can buy this item from Traveling Elonian Trader, you can easily find the NPC around the Pact Command Waypoint – [&BN4LAAA=] and quickly find the location by the Volatile icon on the map.

This item will cost only 245 Karma and 10 Trade Contracts.

Once you completed both collections, Skycales Scales and Skyscale Medicine, return to Gorrik and he will give you the item “A Hopeful Cure”, and you can continue with the next collection.

Skyscale Fever

This collection requires you to give the medicine to 14 Sick Skyscales located around Dragonfall, here you can see the map with their locations:

Once you done giving the medicine to the Sick Skyscales, return to Gorrik and he will give you the item “A Sad Discovery”, and you can continue with the next collection.

Skyscale Eggs

This collection requires you to gather 21 Skyscale Eggs located around Dragonfall, here you can see the map with their locations:

After completing this collection, you will gain a time gated debuff “Waiting for Gorrik” which will last 2 hours.

Once you are done with the Skyscale Eggs collection and the time gated period, return to Gorrik and he will give you the final item “A Benevolent Mission”.

This is the second main collection, it actually have 12 sub collections to complete.

You will get the first item, “A Magic Quest”, as soon you find and talk with Gorrik inside Sun’s Refuge, you can go there from Soul’s Vendetta Waypoint – [&BIMLAAA=] , head northwest and go through the portal.

Skyscale of Water

• The Nature of Water
  • Speak with Grand Elder Water Djinn Khiafe or Grandmaster Elder Djinn Emine after completing the “Defeat the grand elder djinn” event in Hanging Gardens, southeast of Market Ruins Waypoint – [&BHQKAAA=] .

• Waters of Ntouka
  • From Allied Encampment Waypoint – [&BFcLAAA=] follow the road northwest towards Secret Throughway – [&BGILAAA=]. Break the marked wall with the Roller Beetle, and dive into Ntouka Pond. Near the bottom will be an interactable Concentration of Magic.

• Waters of Castavall
  • Travel to Castavall Waypoint – [&BK4BAAA=] and swim down. Near the bottom will be an interactable Concentration of Magic.

• Waters of Derelict Delve
  • Head south from Derelict Delve Waypoint – [&BKQKAAA=] into the dwarven ruins. Follow this guide for the Rune-Locked Doors achievement under the Derelict Delve Achievements to gain access to the water-logged room.

Skyscale of Fire

• The Nature of Fire
  • Speak with Grand Elder Fire Djinn Naayih or Grandmaster Elder Djinn Emine after completing the “Defeat the grand elder djinn” event in Hanging Gardens, southeast of Market Ruins Waypoint – [&BHQKAAA=] .

• Fires of the Legion
  • From Junker’s Waypoint – [&BDcEAAA=] , head southeast into the Great Imperial Smelter. Jump into the molten pool for the achievement.

• Fires of the Mountain
  • From Maelstrom’s Waypoint – [&BM0CAAA=] , jump into any body of lava. This step can also be completed by entering any body of lava around Mount Maelstrom, including the lava flow at Hellmouth Falls – [&BJUGAAA=] .

• Fires of a God
  • From Necropolis Waypoint – [&BEoKAAA=] , follow the road north, then left at the fork. Left once more at the next fork, heading to the bottom of The Foundry. Walk into, and take damage from any of the furnaces in The Hearth – [&BG0KAAA=] . They are the big oven-like structures at the very bottom of the interior of the building.

• Fires of the Depths
  • Despite the hint, you do not need to enter the fire chamber. From Derelict Delve Waypoint – [&BKQKAAA=] , head south into the dwarven ruins. Glide down all the way to the lava flow at the very bottom, and take damage from it.

Skyscale of Ice

• The Nature of Ice
  • Ascend to the upper decks of the kodan ship from Blue Ice Shining Waypoint – [&BIUCAAA=] . Frigid Paw will be waiting at the top of the ramp.

• Ice of the Land
  • Head south from Derelict Delve Waypoint – [&BKQKAAA=] into the dwarven ruins. Follow this guide for the Rune-Locked Doors achievement under the Derelict Delve Achievements to gain access to the ice room.

• Ice of the Sea
  • From Revolution’s Heart Waypoint – [&BKYLAAA=] , head southeast towards the Ice Floe. Near Freedom’s Catchment – [&BMELAAA=] will be a Concentration of Magic underwater. Interact with the Concentration of Magic to complete this step.

• Ice of the Air
  • Walk into any of the roaming Ice Storms in Bitterfrost Frontier, or be frozen by a Veteran Corrupted Ice Elemental around or during the Claw of Jormag world boss event.

Skyscale of Earth

• The Nature of Earth
  • Speak with Grand Elder Earth Djinn Bhozu or Grandmaster Elder Djinn Emine after completing the “Defeat the grand elder djinn” event in Hanging Gardens, southeast of Market Ruins Waypoint – [&BHQKAAA=] .

• Sands of Sifuri
  • Beginning from Amnoon Waypoint – [&BLsKAAA=] , follow the road north until the broken bridge by Mekele Bluffs. Cross the delta eastward and turn north once past the Forged outpost. Step into the quicksand surrounding the Mastery Insight to complete this step.

• Sands of Prosperity
  • Dip into the quicksand by Prosperity Waypoint – [&BHoHAAA=] .

• Sands of the Riverlands
  • Trek northwest from Olishar’s Oasis Camp Waypoint – [&BCgKAAA=] . Step into the quicksands of The Quickmire to complete this step.

• Sands of Vabbi
  • A short way east of Necropolis Waypoint – [&BEoKAAA=] is a small patch of quicksand that will help complete this step.

Skyscale of Air

• The Nature of Air
  • Speak with Grand Elder Air Djinn Dhizosai or Grandmaster Elder Djinn Emine after completing the “Defeat the grand elder djinn” event in Hanging Gardens, southeast of Market Ruins Waypoint – [&BHQKAAA=] .

• Winds of the Waste
  • Head east of Cragged Vale Waypoint – [&BKUKAAA=] in Domain of Vabbi towards Eastern Mihan Hillsides to find Dust Mite Twisters. Get knocked down by a Dust Mite Twister to complete this step.

• Winds of the Garden
  • Interact with the Concentration of Magic next to the Cantle of Sky in the Hidden Garden jumping puzzle.

• Winds of the Storm
  • Go to either Brand tornado, in Central Brand Scar in Jahai Bluffs. The tornado moves around the area, its current location will be marked on the map.

Skyscale of Life

• The Nature of Life
  • Speak with the Priestess of Dwayna next to Dwayna Waypoint – [&BCMDAAA=] . She will give you the effect “Dwayna’s Directive” and you can complete the next steps.

• Giver of Life
  • Revive 3 allies while under the effects of Dwayna’s Directive.
• Champion of Life
  • Revive 6 more allies while under the effects of Dwayna’s Directive.
• Commander of Life
  • Revive 9 more allies while under the effects of Dwayna’s Directive.

Skyscale of Blood

• The Nature of Blood
  • Speak with General Almorra Soulkeeper at Pact Command – [&BN4LAAA=] in Dragonfall. She will give you the effect “Almorra’s Directive” and you can complete the next steps.

• Taker of Blood
  • Defeat 25 foes while under the effect of Almorra’s Directive.
• Champion of Blood
  • Defeat 50 more foes while under the effect of Almorra’s Directive.
• Commander of Blood
  • Defeat 75 more foes while under the effect of Almorra’s Directive.

Skyscale of Growth

• The Nature of Growth
  • From Upper Commons Waypoint – [&BLoEAAA=] follow the path east towards the seed pod elevator. Enter the Omphalos Chamber and speak to the Teacher immediately to the right with a circle of students.

• Growth of Strawberries
  • Travel to Brightwater Waypoint – [&BJEKAAA=] and make your way towards the Choya enclave in Pricklepatch Hollow – [&BEMKAAA=] . The strawberry patch is by the waterfall towards the back of the cave.

• Growth of Artichokes
  • Ascend The Necropolis from Necropolis Waypoint – [&BEoKAAA=] . Follow the road west, past the organ-sorting area. Towards the end of the road, climb the cliffs to the artichoke patch (due South of the Renown Heart).

• Growth of Cauliflower
  • Head southeast from Olishar’s Oasis Camp Waypoint – [&BCgKAAA=] to climb the cliffs southeast of the vista by Lonely Vigil – [&BOgKAAA=] . The cauliflower patch is located on the cliffs above, guarded by harpies.

• Growth of Carrots
  • Ride your Skimmer east from Bonestrand Waypoint – [&BNwKAAA=] and boost up the embankment. The carrot patch is to the north on the embankment, guarded by jacaranda.

Skyscale of Death

• The Nature of Death
  • Head into The Necropolis from Necropolis Waypoint – [&BEoKAAA=] and climb the stairs south towards the hero challenge where Sister Lissa is standing by her family.

• Death of the Exile
  • Exile’s Rest – [&BLAKAAA=] is the graveyard to the west of Olishar’s Oasis Camp Waypoint – [&BCgKAAA=] .

• Death of the Conquered
  • Travel to Joko’s Domain Waypoint – [&BAsKAAA=] and follow the road South into the Bone Palace – [&BAIKAAA=] .
    The Concentration of Magic is located by Joko’s throne.
    If the event to defeat the Canid Throneguard is active or failed recently, the palace is surrounded by a wall of green light and the door is closed. While this event is active, the staircases on the sides of the palace have to be used to enter the throne room. If a green wall expels your character from the throne room, you will need to wait for the wall to fall in order to enter.

• Death of the Kings
  • Journey to the Tomb of Primeval Kings from Lommuld Kraal Waypoint – [&BGoKAAA=] .
    The Concentration of Magic is located at the foot of the Twin Queens near The Portal – [&BIoKAAA=] .

• Death of the Oppressed
  • Beginning from Champion’s Dawn Waypoint – [&BBoLAAA=] , follow the road southeast, then up into the graveyard known as Field of the Hopeful – [&BBsLAAA=] .

Skyscale of Spirit

• The Nature of Spirit
  • Venture northeast from Mrot Boru Waypoint – [&BHUAAAA=] . Speak to Amaranda the Lonesome who stand atop a rise on the northern side of the pond.

• Spirit of the Lich King
  • Trek westward from Yatendi Village Waypoint – [&BH4LAAA=] along the northern edge of the Central Brand Scar. Monument to the Return of Palawa Joko – [&BJELAAA=] is to the north, halfway along the road.

• Spirit of the Centaurs
  • Head north from Venta Pass Waypoint – [&BJMLAAA=] towards the mysterious Ancestor Tree – [&BHoLAAA=] .

• Spirit of the Hero
  • Starting from Skimmer Ranch Waypoint – [&BGcKAAA=] , make the long trek towards the northwestern corner of the map, where you’ll find the monument to Ossa’s Defeat – [&BNEKAAA=] .

• Spirit of the Prophet
  • Begin in the Desert Highlands at the Makali Outpost Waypoint – [&BGsKAAA=] . Exit northeast, then over the fiery gates into the Branded crater of Prophet’s Fall. The Concentration of Magic sits on a floating crystal above the rim of the crater.

Skyscale of Fear

• The Nature of Fear
  • Speak with Orson at Demon’s Maw in Lornar’s Pass. From Demon’s Maw Waypoint – [&BOYAAAA=] , head east towards Ettinworks Lab – [&BBgBAAA=] .

• Astraphobia
  • Get hit by lightning while under the effect of Fury of the Brand. From Domain of Vabbi Market Ruins Waypoint – [&BHQKAAA=] , exit the shield and wait until lightning strikes.

• Glossophobia
  • Complete the event “Speak from the lectern to lecture against Joko’s brainwashing before the instructor arrives”.
    During the event a “teach” action pops up at the lectern. The item is acquired once the event ends. You answer some questions correctly from the podium and kill awakened along the way.

• Alektorophobia
  • Attack chickens in the farm south of Fallen Angels Garrison Waypoint – [&BFEBAAA=] until Angry Chickens appear.
    The achievement is complete when your character receives damage from an Angry Chicken.

• Acrophobia
  • Turn south from Lowland Burns Waypoint – [&BE4DAAA=] . Use your Springer to jump up to the top of the wall (including the floating pieces) at Monument Grounds to acquire the collection item.

Skyscale of Courage

• Courage in the Face of Death
  • Go to Fort Trinity in Straits of Devastation and tell your egg how you defeated Zhaitan. Revisit Fort Trinity Waypoint – [&BO4CAAA=] and climb up to the Alseta Generator – [&BP4DAAA=] .

• Courage in the Face of Lost Will
  • Go to Camp Resolve in the Silverwastes and tell your egg how you defeated Mordremoth. Walk east from Camp Resolve Waypoint – [&BH8HAAA=] into the ordnance workshop.

• Courage in the Face of Shattered Faith
  • Go to King Joko’s Sky Garden in the Domain of Vabbi and tell your egg how you defeated Balthazar. Beginning from Market Ruins Waypoint – [&BHQKAAA=] , hop on your Springer, and brave the Brandstorm as you climb up the scaffolding and stairs towards the top of King Joko’s Sky Garden – [&BOoKAAA=] .

• Courage in the Face of Oblivion
  • Go to Pact Command in Dragonfall and tell your egg how you defeated Kralkatorrik. Share your latest victory from the prow of the airship a short walk north of Pact Command Waypoint – [&BN4LAAA=] .

• Courage in the Face of One’s Self
  • Kill your character’s doppelganger summoned during the fight against Branded Josso Essher or the crazed doppelganger during The Path to Ascension meta event. You can the use the command in-game /wiki ET to find the timer of the meta-event.

Once you complete all the 12 collections above, go back to talk with Gorrik and he will give you the last item “A Quest Completed”, and you can continue with the next steps, you will need to wait 2 hours and you will receive a mail from Gorrik to unlock the next collection.

This is the third main collection, once you received the mail from Gorrik to talk to him at Sun’s Refuge, and he will give you the first item “A New Life”, then just simply wait a moment near the egg, and wait until your Skyscale has hatched, talk again with Gorrik and he will give you the second item “A New Parent”, now it’s time to complete 3 more sub collections:

Skyscale Care

This collection is time-gated, you need to feed your Skyscale.
You can choose to buy the food from the trading post, or craft it yourself. The minimum time required is 3 days, if crafting, each Piece of Skyscale Food requires 1 Charged Quartz Crystal per piece, requiring an additional 12 days. If crafting the Grow Lamp, an additional 10 Charged Quartz Crystals are needed, requiring a further 10 days.

• Piece of Skyscale Food
  • Crafted in the Mystic Forge by combining a Charged Quartz Crystal with Globs of Ectoplasm, Bloodstone Dust, and Red Meat.
    Can also be purchased from the trading post.
• Pinweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Atomweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Strawweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Flyweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Bantamweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Featherweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Lightweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Welterweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Middleweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Cruiserweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Heavyweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.
• Fullweight Hatchling
  • Obtained by feeding skyscale food to your hatchling. A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.

Despite every objective hint mentioning “A happy skyscale can be fed up to 4 times daily.”, each objective of this achievement requires you to feed your skyscale hatchling once, amounting to a total of 12 Pieces of Skyscale Food needed to complete this collection.
If you already have the food in your inventory before unlocking the achievement you have to manually add the food as an item achievement by right-clicking the item and add as item achievement, otherwise you will not gain the achievement automatically.

Skyscale Treats

For this collection, you need to defeat creatures around the world to find treats, and feed them to your Skyscale.
The collection only records upon giving the treats to the Skyscale, not upon item acquisition.
The treats may be given all at once, or as acquired.
Although the hints indicate the chances are higher from champions, level 80 enemy groups with a veteran and normal enemies have a very high chance to drop them too, often dropping on the first kill.

• Masticated Tasty Karka Leg
  • Defeatkarkato obtain a treat for your skyscale. Camp Karka Waypoint – [&BNcGAAA=] – North of Canach’s Folly

• Masticated Tasty Dried Cat’s Paw
  • Defeat sand lions to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Amnoon Waypoint – [&BLsKAAA=] – Northeast, in the Sifuri Sand Sea just north of Shattered Templar point of interest.

• Masticated Tasty Dried Flower
  • Defeat iboga to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Temple of Kormir Waypoint – [&BEAKAAA=] – Southwest, in Kusini Water Hole.

• Masticated Tasty Dried Carapace
  • Defeat desert insects to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Amnoon Waypoint – [&BLsKAAA=] – South, in Amnoon Water Authority.

• Masticated Tasty Dried Bark
  • Defeatjacarandato obtain a treat for your skyscale. Temple of Kormir Waypoint – [&BEAKAAA=] – North, in front of Desert Highlands gate.

• Masticated Tasty Dried Eel
  • Defeat sand eels to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Temple of Kormir Waypoint – [&BEAKAAA=] – North, in front of Desert Highlands gate.

• Masticated Tasty Dried Hoof
  • Defeat rock gazelles to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Temple of Kormir Waypoint – [&BEAKAAA=] – North, in front of Desert Highlands gate.

• Masticated Tasty Dried Shark
  • Defeat sand sharks to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Amnoon Waypoint – [&BLsKAAA=] – In the Sifuri Sand Sea.

• Masticated Tasty Bat Wing
  • Defeat bats to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Allied Encampment Waypoint – [&BFcLAAA=] – Caves east of waypoint.

• Masticated Tasty Skale Fin
  • Defeat skales to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Allied Encampment Waypoint – [&BFcLAAA=] – North of waypoint in Elon Basin.

• Masticated Tasty Skelk Liver
  • Defeat skelks to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Reclaimed Chantry Waypoint – [&BJkLAAA=] – Below the waterfall to the east.

• Masticated Tasty Spider Leg
  • Defeat spiders to obtain a treat for your skyscale. The Scourgeway Waypoint – [&BHMKAAA=] .

• Masticated Tasty Minotaur Flank
  • Defeatminotaursto obtain a treat for your skyscale. Seborhin Waypoint – [&BNAKAAA=] – Head northeast into the Eastern Mihan Hillsides, in the far east section, southeast of the Mastery Point.

• Masticated Tasty Wyvern Wing
  • Defeat wyverns to obtain a treat for your skyscale. Ogre Camp Waypoint – [&BMwHAAA=] – Above.

Skyscale Toys

For this collection, you need to purchase four toys from around Tyria to give to your Skyscale. To progress the collection, you need to give the items to your Skyscale in Sun’s Refuge using the Give Toy skill.

• Used Hardy Ball
  • Purchase a Hardy Ball from Jannat at Vehtendi Academy in the Domain of Vabbi, then give it to your skyscale in Sun’s Refuge. Vehtendi Academy Waypoint – [&BA8KAAA=] .

• Used Bird Whistle
  • Purchase a Bird Whistle from Gortho, Son of Malik near Gladefall Run in Iron Marches, then give it to your skyscale in Sun’s Refuge. Gladefall Waypoint–[&BO4BAAA=] .

• Used Heavy-Duty Dolyak Blanket
  • Purchase a Heavy-Duty Dolyak Blanket from Herder Lyot near Bouldermouth Vale in Lornar’s Pass, then give it to your skyscale in Sun’s Refuge. Refuge Peak Waypoint – [&BFIGAAA=] .

• Used Grow Lamp
  • Craft a Grow Lamp with a jeweler using a recipe obtained in Drytop, or purchase one from the Trading Post. Give the resulting item to your skyscale in Sun’s Refuge. Dry Top Entry Waypoint – [&BIAHAAA=] .

Once you done with these 3 sub collections, to back to Gorrik at Sun’s Refuge and after talking with him, you will receive the final item “A Growing Child”, and you can continue with the next steps, you will need to wait 2 hours and you will receive a mail from Gorrik to unlock the next collection.

This is the fourth main collection, once you received the mail from Gorrik to talk to him at Sun’s Refuge, and he will give you the first item “A Fearful Message”, then you can continue with the next step.

Skyscale Lost

For this collection you need find your lost Skyscale trough 21 locations, some are jumping puzzles and some are world boss events, you can see the full list detailed below:

NOTE: you can use as alternative an Extra-Pungent Skyscale Treat for any of these locations to progress the achievement faster. An easier option is if you have the Griffon, just scale the high point next to the waypoint and begin gliding over. When you are far enough away, launch off and use your glider to get there.

Once you completed Skyscale Lost, go back to Gorrik at Sun’s Refuge, and after you talk with him, you will receive the item “A Homecoming”, now you can continue with the next step.

Skyscale Stealth

For this step, you need to complete the hide-and-seek minigame at Sun’s Refuge on all 3 difficulties.

• Stealthy Apprentice
  • Go to Sun’s Refuge and complete the hide-and-seek minigame on easy.
• Stealthy Journeyman
  • Go to Sun’s Refuge and complete the hide-and-seek minigame on medium.
• Stealthy Master
  • Go to Sun’s Refuge and complete the hide-and-seek minigame on hard.

You can target your Skyscale before hiding, to see the target once the hide and seek starts.
All hiding spots are in the same Old Command Post area that Gorrik is in.
When nearby you can hear the Skyscale.
Every so often (at approximately 20 second intervals on all difficulties), the Skyscale will ping the map to show her location.

Skyscale Reflexes

For this step, you need to complete the Catch minigame at Sun’s Refuge on all 3 difficulties.

• Agile Apprentice
  • Complete the catch minigame on easy. Interact with the ball in Sun’s Refuge to play.
• Agile Journeyman
  • Complete the catch minigame on medium. Interact with the ball in Sun’s Refuge to play.
• Agile Master
  • Complete the catch minigame on hard. Interact with the ball in Sun’s Refuge to play.

To play the minigame, interact with the ball, then use the bundle ability.
The skyscale will throw the ball back into your direction. You must stand in the white circle where it lands or the game will fail.
Use dodge if necessary. Catching the ball refills your endurance.
After about a dozen throws, the game is over.
It can be helpful to use teleport skills to catch the ball.

Once you done with Skyscale Stealth and Skyscale Reflexes, go back to Gorrik and after you talk with him, you will receive the final item of the collection “A Capable Skyscale”, and you can continue with the next steps, you will need to wait 2 hours and you will receive a mail from Gorrik to unlock the next collection.

This is the fifth and final main collection, to start, when you receive the mail, go to talk with Gorrik at Sun’s Refuge, and you will receive the first item “A Skyscale’s Choice”, now you can continue with the next step.

Skyscale Saddle

For this collection, you need to gather 7 component for Gorrik so he can make you a saddle so that you can ride your Skyscale.

Once you buy all the items, you need to meet Gorrik again, but this time he will be in another location. You can find Gorrik at Jahai Bluffs near the Fortress of Jahai:

After you talk with him, you will receive the item “A Lesson in Flying” and you can continue with the next step.

Skyscale Flight

For this collection you have to use your Skyscale and investigate the “Reality Tears” by just flying to them, they are 28 total. They are actually Reality Rifts, but since you still don’t have the mount fully unlocked you can’t train that mastery yet but don’t worry, for this collection you will only need to fly to them, here you can see below each location and of course you will see the icons on map as well, the first icon is where you grab your Skyscale and the second icon where Reality Tear location is.

And that’s it!!! Finally after this massive guide, once you complete Skyscale Flight, you will complete as well Riding Skyscales, and you will finally earn the mount, congrats!

  • Learn to use your skyscale’s magic resources to closerifts. This will draw out the magic trapped within and reveal new flight paths.

  • Learn to launch off walls with your skyscale, providing a moment of respite and the ability to fly to greater heights.

Skills

• Blast: Engage. While on land, leap into the air and breathe fire ahead of you. If in the air, descend toward the ground before attacking
• Wall Jump: While clinging to a wall, hold to charge a jump. Release to jump.
• Descend: While flying, decrease altitude.
• Dash: While airborne, rapidly dash forward.

After learning the three masteries, general movement is controlled by the following default controls:

• Directional movement – WASD + Mouse
• Dash – V
• Increase altitude – Spacebar
• Decrease altitude – C
• Increase/decrease pitch – Mouse up/down
• Cling to wall – W (hold)
• Wall Launch – (while clinging to a wall) Spacebar

Once the Skyscale is fully unlocked, the player will have additional control options available as keybinds. In your Control Options menu, under Mounts, you will find Mount Ability 1 and Mount Ability 2. For the Skyscale, these keybinds translate to Dash and Decrease altitude respectively. By default, your character can dash using the V, and decrease altitude using C. Alternatively the engage skill can be also used to decrease altitude, but this will cause the player to dismount once they reach the ground.

Players can control the pitch (up to approximately 30° from horizontal) of the Skyscale by aiming the movement direction up or down with the Mouse while in flight.

Flying

Like the Griffon, holding space will cause a Skyscale to take flight. Unlike the Griffon, a Skyscale is able to hover in the air indefinitely, and can freely ascend and descend in place (for example, ascending by 500 units will cost around 37% of the green flight meter above the Endurance bar, then descending 500 units will refill that same 37% of the flight meter). However, flying laterally will begin to consume the flight meter, reducing the maximum height that the Skyscale is able to attain, until it is eventually forced to land. Upon landing, the flight meter instantly refills despite the flight bar not immediately reflecting this (for example, simply ‘tapping’ the ground will give you an entire flight meter the moment you touch the ground).

If a Skyscale hovers too close to the ground, it will slowly descend and then land.
Descending while the flight meter is already full will waste the excess, and will reduce the Skyscale’s maximum altitude.

Flight Mechanics

The flight mechanics of the Skyscale can be described as a cylinder of 1350 units height (300 units higher than the Springer) and zero width, with the bottom of the cylinder at the height where the Skyscale left ground. The Skyscale’s altitude cannot exceed the top of this cylinder. Flying laterally in any direction will reduce the maximum height of said cylinder, until it reaches the minimum altitude, in which the Skyscale will be forced to land (or go below if possible). The current maximum height of the cylinder can be tracked by the green flight meter above the Endurance bar.

This means that the Skyscale’s flight is limited by a “canopy” of about 9,400 units (the length of a Keg Brawl field). However there are a number of ways to refill the flight meter temporarily, and therefore allow rider and Skyscale to exceed the canopy.

Exceeding the canopy

Currently the methods for allowing the Skyscale to fly higher and further include:

• The Dash (default V) action, which consumes Endurance to propel the Skyscale forwards, temporarily ignoring the maximum altitude; also does a roll in the air
• The Crystal Champion Mastery skill Bond of Vigor will refill 50% of the flight meter, and refills the Endurance bar completely;
• The Skyscale Mount Mastery Wall Launch can be used to convert one Endurance bar into about 66% flight meter while the Skyscale is clinging to a wall;
• Touching nodes from the flight paths formed after a Rift Repair node will refill the flight meter;
• Touching an Volatile Magic node will refill (and reset) the flight meter; and lastly,
• Being propelled upwards by a Branded Tornado or Claw of Kralkatorrik will refill, but not reset the flight meter.

However, using any of these means to exceed the limits of the canopy will reduce the maximum possible flight meter that can be subsequently recovered, as indicated by a red bar that fills from the right side of the meter.

This red bar will force a rapid decrease in altitude until it’s depleted.

Besides landing, the only way to reduce the red bar is by touching a Volatile Magic node. Using Bond of Vigor doesn’t reduce the red bar, but fills flight meter on top of it.

While both bars of the flight meter coexists, the red one will deplete the green one. Pressing Spacebar to increase the altitude will take priority, consuming the green bar while increasing the red bar.

Wall clinging

The Skyscale can cling to walls by holding W, or activating autorun. While clinging, the Endurance bar and the flight meter won’t recharge, and skills such as Bond of Vigor will have their cooldown frozen. Releasing the key will make the mount bounce backwards, releasing the grip to the wall.

If Wall Launch is unlocked, it can be used by holding Spacebar while clinging to a wall. This will convert one Endurance bar into about 66% flight meter. Releasing Spacebar will cause the skyscale to launch upwards, expending about 20% of its flight meter. As stated before, using the newly obtained teal gauge will increase the red one.

To avoid the automatic wall grab in order to land on small ledges, it’s possible to move using only A, S or D, decreasing altitude with C if required. Using the dash at an angle will produce a similar result, it won’t trigger the automatic grab even against a wall.
