MOSER Virginia Dee Smith Virginia Dee Smith Moser, 91, of Montvale, departed to her heavenly home on August 21, 2013. She passed quietly from her country home with loved ones by her side. She was predeceased by her father, Lloyd Brown Smith and her mother, Mabel Claire Otey Smith, and two brothers, Lloyd Brown Smith and Frank Otey Smith. The loss of Lloyd Jr. "Junie" during World War II, a pilot with the 316th fighter squadron, of the 324th fighter group, was devastating to her and the family.

She held him close in her heart and memory throughout her entire life. Our loving Mother is survived by her five children, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother and sister in law, daughter in law, and son in law; Albert W. Moser Jr. (son), of Floyd, Claire D'Alessandro, Frank Jr. and Nicholas, Noel and Avery (daughter, her sons and grandchildren Lloyd Smith Moser (son), of Roanoke; Neil Laurence Moser, Frances M.

Gaeta, and children, Charles Samuel and Eleanor Virginia, of Montvale (son and family); and Jane Elizabeth Moser -McGovern and Terry daughter and son- in- law), of Oakland James Douglas Smith and Bobbie, of Williamsburg, (brother and his wife). She is also survived by the father of her children and former husband, Albert W. Moser, MD (Schenectady, N.Y.) of Floyd, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was born on March 17, 1922 in Ashland, Ken. She was raised and enjoyed much of her childhood in Rainelle, W.Va.

She was the editor of her high school newspaper and developed her talents as a musician and creative writer. She completed high school at Virginia Intermont College. She would later attend Roanoke College, James Madison University, University of Pennsylvania and completed her college degree at West Virginia Wesleyan University. Mom truly enjoyed her college years playing stand up bass and piano in numerous bands throughout the 1940's. But it was also during this time that mom and her family lost their beloved son and brother to the war.

After college, she married and lived in Richmond Virginia; Lexington, Massachusetts, and Durham, N. C. Mom was mostly a home-maker for her children but worked numerous jobs including insurance sales, teaching music, and 9th grade science. When the kids were grown she started a second career as a nurse and moved to Lake Worth, Florida where she worked several years as a trauma nurse and home health nurse. Music and writing were often considered her true talents by family and friends with several musical recordings and small publishing's of poetry.

Medical colleagues spoke of her exceptional skill, sensitivity, and reassuring bedside manner for her patients. Mom's love of music, and writing and nursing were second only to her love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. After retiring she returned to her mother's birthplace at the Otey family home "Valley View Farm" near Montvale, Virginia. The family would like to express our gratitude, appreciation, and love to our brother Lloyd for his devotion and diligent 24-7 care provided to our Mom at her home for the past 2 and a half years.
