The secret to enjoying a spicy Bloody Mary » Taste of Florida (2024)

I love spicy things so when it comes to salsa, hot wings, jalapeno poppers, and the like my motto is “the hotter the better”. When I get Thai or Indian food–and you know they mean business when it comes to spicy–I’ll even go with “4” on a scale of 1 to 5 (with “5” being “take me to the burn unit after this”).

But they key to enjoying each of those deliciously spicy dishes is having the right thing on the side to cool off with. With salsa you might have chips or tortillas, with wings or poppers you can dip them in ranch or bleu cheese, there’s always rice or noodles to go with curry…

But have you ever thought of pairing something with a spicy bloody mary to even you out a bit after a particularly hot sip?

Perhaps you didn’t know that there is already a perfect and probably surprising way to tone down the kick in your bloody mary… beer! A local restaurant I frequent that serves up a killer spicy bloody mary sends it out with a shot glass full of a dark beer such as a stout or a porter. They suggest sipping the beer between drinks to cleanse your pallet or, if you’re not someone who enjoys spicy in the first place, you can also steadily pour the beer into your bloody to tone down the spice of the entire drink.

Pretty nifty, huh?

Whether you’re someone who also enjoys a bit of heat in your drink or if you like to stay a little more on the chill side, I definitely recommend trying out or serving up our spicy bloody mary mix with a side of refreshing, dark beer.
