Your Stories Q&A: When will Quaker granola bars return to stores? (2024)

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR) – You ask, we answer!

Viewer Tina Bechtel asked the Your Stories Team: When will Quaker granola bars return to stores shelves?

In December, the Quaker Oates Company recalled certain granola bars and cereals over possible salmonella contamination.

Then in January, the company expanded the recall, adding about two dozen more products to the list.

According to an Associated Press article published in January, the expanded items included, “Quaker Chewy Granola Bars and Cereals, Cap’n Crunch Bars and select cereals, Gamesa Marias Cereal, Gatorade Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Bars, Munchies Munch Mix and snack boxes that contain those products.”

When will the recalled items return to shelves?

Quaker has not responded to our repeated emails on when shelves will return to normal.

On the company’s website under its FAQ section, it states:

We’re working hard to ensure you can find the wholesome, high-quality food that you have come to expect from the Quaker brand for more than 140 years. Starting today, select products are back on shelves...”

The YS Team reached out to Wegmans, Price Chopper and Tops to see if the stores are still impacted by the recall.

Wegmans sent us the following statement via email:

“We carried Quaker’s Chewy Bars and Oat Squares cereals until they were recalled back in December 2023. None of these items have returned to our store’s shelves yet. We suggest reaching out to Quaker for additional information on when these products might be available again.”

Tops and Price Chopper also referred us to Quaker. A Tops spokesperson added that “a few SKUs” started shipping to some stores earlier this month.

A Price Chopper spokesperson alluded that the supermarket chain had received a very small amount of the items previously recalled from Quaker.

We’ll keep checking for updates. In the meantime, you can find more information on the recall by clicking here.
