THE return of a WA favourite could hinge on a squishy confectionery.
A peaceful protest was held today at Brownes Dairy’s headquarters in Balcatta, where fans of YoGo Dirt Dessert called for the treat’s return.
Brownes is currently unable to make the dairy product because it needs to source a new marshmallow supplier.
But the company responded to today’s protest by promising to double its effort to revive a product at the peak of its popularity in the 90s and early 2000s.

Despite having no plans to bring the product back prior to the protest, Brownes’ chief executive Tony Girgis said he was committed to answering the call.
“Brownes is committed to supporting the WA community – including farmers, retailers and, of course, the people of WA who have grown up with our products,” he said.
“Dirt Dessert fans need to now rally the supermarkets to commit to putting Dirt Dessert back on shelves so we can meet ingredient supplier demand.”
At its peak, Western Australians devoured 12,000 tubs of Dirt Dessert each week.
But it was discontinued in 2013 because of poor sales.
A Change.org petition with the aim of bringing the product back was signed by more than 1,100 people.
A supporting Facebook page has close to 1,800 supporters.
Brownes also announced it was considering releasing some of YoGo’s classic flavours including strawberry and vanilla as limited edition products.
